Dr Deborah Munro

University of Canterbury
Mechanical Engineering

Deborah began in August 2018 and is leading the development of UC’s new biomedical engineering minor. In Oregon, she taught mechanical engineering and implemented a master’s in biomedical engineering. Prior to entering academia, she worked most of her career in industry, designing life science support equipment at NASA Ames, medical electrical connectors in Japan, and robotic dinosaurs for the Jurassic Park Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood before finding her true passion in orthopaedics and biomechanics.
Deborah designs total joint replacement implants, such as hips and knees, and her current area of research is designing wireless, implantable sensors for fracture healing.
