The overall goal is to improve hip fracture predictions using routine clinical images by combining machine learning with advanced models of bone microarchitecture. we will simulate bone strength using finite element models that capture the architecture of trabecular bone using fabric tensors. Machine learning will be used to encapsulate the model to make the prediction process clinically feasible. A system such as this integrates finite element modelling and clinical images to improve fracture risk predictions. As our population continues to age, this work becomes increasingly important to public health systems for diagnosis of osteoporosis and prevention of fracture risk.
