My research focus is on the development of computer programs and experimental techniques for investigating the relationship between structure and function in the heart. Currently, this primarily involves the construction and use of a novel extended-volume confocal imaging microscope to acquire large 3D high-resolution images of tissue structure and organisation, alongside development and coding of image processing algorithms for extracting information and analysing image data, and development of computer models. This increased understanding of the relationship between cardiac structure and function helps identify new diagnostic and therapeutic targets.
