My main area of focus is Regenerative Medicine, a multidisciplinary field bringing together life sciences with the principles of engineering and manufacturing method to develop biological substitutes to replace and maintain diseased, malfunctioning and dying tissue and organs. Trauma- and age-related afflictions are important targets. This includes e.g. wounds to skin and soft tissue; bone non-unions and segmental defects; and spinal damage including intervertebral disk failure. The field also addresses itself to e.g. biomanufacturing/scale-up/scale-out of CBTs; navigation of regulatory pathways; and delivery of therapies to clinics. A central mantra is to deal to afflictions at-source rather rely on ineffective palliative care.
