Professor Rick Millane

University of Canterbury
Electrical and Computer Engineering

My group works on computational imaging, with an emphasis on algorithm development for molecular imaging in structural biology and for medical imaging. My current focus is on developing algorithms for processing data from x-ray free-electron lasers, used for molecular structure determination of proteins and other biomolecular assemblies. This approach is being used to study the structures of amyloid-forming proteins, to aid in the understanding of the molecular basis of plaque formation in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. We also work, with Professor Phil Bones, on novel reconstruction algorithms for magnetic resonance imaging.
